Effective date: June 3, 2026
Montir is a social film-ranking app: you rank the movies and shows you watch, build your lists, follow friends, and see how your taste compares with the community and with people you know. Because Montir is a social product, parts of your profile and activity are visible to other users by design. This Privacy Policy explains what information Montir ("Montir," "we," "us," or "our") collects, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Service.
We've tried to write this in plain language. Where a section starts with In short, that's a quick summary — the full text that follows is what legally governs.
Montir is operated by Montir. If you have questions about this policy or want to exercise your privacy rights, contact us:
For privacy-specific requests, see Section 10.
We collect the following categories of information.
No advertising or cross-app tracking. Montir does not serve advertising, does not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking technologies, and does not sell or share your personal information for behavioral advertising. Catalog lookups to Trakt are made server-side and contain no information that identifies you (see Section 7).
We use the information described above to:
In short: Contact matching is optional, and it's designed so we never see your contacts' names or raw phone numbers.
If you grant Montir permission to access your contacts:
We do not upload or store your contacts' names or raw phone numbers, and we do not keep the submitted hashes as a stored contact list. You can decline the contacts permission, and you can revoke it at any time in your device's operating system settings.
Being discoverable. By default, other users who have your phone number saved in their contacts may find you on Montir through the hashed-matching process above. You can turn this off using the "let contacts find me" setting, which turns off your discoverability so you are no longer surfaced to others through contact matching.
In short: Montir is a social app, so your profile and activity are visible to others.
The following are visible to other Montir users:
Some figures — such as community or friends' average scores — may be gated behind inviting friends. That is a product feature designed to encourage participation; it is not a privacy control and does not change what others can see about you.
If you don't want certain information to be visible, don't add it to your profile, or delete your account (see Section 9).
We share your information only in these circumstances:
We do not sell your personal information.
We use a small set of third-party providers that act on our behalf, under contract, to deliver the service. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Our backend — database, authentication, file storage, and serverless functions | Stores your Montir app data (profile, activity, hashed phone number, etc.) |
| Twilio (Verify) | Sends the login SMS | Your phone number |
| Trakt | Provides film and TV catalog data | Catalog queries made server-side; these do not include your identity or personal information |
| Expo, Apple Push Notification service (APNs), and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) | Deliver push notifications | Your push token and the notification content |
| ChottuLink | Invite and deep-link attribution | The non-personal referral code contained in invite links |
| hCaptcha | Bot and abuse protection at sign-up | Device and anti-abuse signals |
These providers are service providers/processors acting on our behalf and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. As noted above, we do not sell your personal information. We do not use a payment processor because Montir does not currently charge for the app or offer paid features.
If you enable notifications, we collect a device push token (via Expo) and use it — together with APNs (Apple) or FCM (Google) — to send you notifications such as a new follower or a friend joining from your invite. You can turn off push notifications at any time in your device's operating system settings; doing so does not affect your ability to use the rest of the app.
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, and afterward only as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. By data category:
Deleting your account. You can delete your account directly in the app at Profile → Account → Delete account. You can also request deletion by emailing us at MontirTechnologies@gmail.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
Making a privacy request. To make a privacy request (access, correction, or deletion), email us at MontirTechnologies@gmail.com with the subject line "Privacy Request," or use Profile → Account → Delete account for deletion. We will acknowledge and respond within the time required by applicable law (for example, 45 days under the CCPA, extendable as the law allows). We may need to verify your identity — typically via the phone number associated with your account — before acting on a request.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request deletion of your personal information; to correct inaccurate information; and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
California "Shine the Light." California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (the "Shine the Light" law) permits California residents to request information about a business's disclosure of personal information to third parties for those third parties' own direct marketing. Montir does not disclose your personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes; the providers in Section 7 act only as our service providers/processors. You may confirm this by contacting us at the address in Section 1.
Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control. Some browsers and devices offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal or a Global Privacy Control (GPC). Because Montir is a mobile app and does not track you across third-party websites or services over time, and because we do not sell or share your personal information, we do not change our practices in response to DNT signals. We treat a validly received GPC signal as a request to opt out of sale/sharing where applicable; however, we do not sell or share personal information in the first place.
EEA/UK residents (GDPR). To the extent the EU/UK GDPR applies to you, you also have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, and to data portability, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our legal bases for processing include performance of our contract with you (providing the service), your consent (for example, contacts access and push notifications), and our legitimate interests (such as preventing abuse and improving the app).
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including:
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Montir is operated from the United States, and the information we collect is processed and stored in the United States. If you access Montir from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Montir is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13, consistent with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and our Terms of Service. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at MontirTechnologies@gmail.com and we will take steps to delete it.
When we change this policy we will update the Effective date at the top and post the revised policy at the same location where you accessed it. For material changes we will provide additional, advance notice through the Montir app (for example, an in-app notice) or by another reasonable means before the changes take effect. Because Montir uses phone-based sign-in, in-app notices and SMS are our primary notice channels. Your continued use of Montir after an update takes effect means you accept the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
You consent to receive communications, agreements, disclosures, and notices from us electronically — including in the Montir app, by SMS to the number associated with your account, or by posting at a location we direct you to — and you agree that such electronic communications satisfy any legal requirement that a communication be in writing. Because Montir uses phone-based sign-in, in-app messages and SMS are our primary notice channels. This consent is also addressed in our Terms of Service.
We want Montir to be usable by everyone. If you encounter an accessibility barrier or need an accommodation to use the app or to read this policy, contact us at MontirTechnologies@gmail.com and we will work to provide the information or assistance you need in an accessible format.
This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Service. If any provision of this policy is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
